TRAINING Who Needs What?  •  Class Descriptions

Orientation Training:
This required training is your introduction to the Girl Scout Program with emphasis on GSTC policies and standards, and Safety-Wise. Most training sessions will take place in your Service Unit.
 
Basic Leadership Training:
This required training is designed as an introduction to the Girl Scout philosophy with emphasis on the Girl Scout Mission, Program Goals, and Girl-Centered Planning.
 
Daisy Girl Scout Program Level Training:
This training will provide Daisy Girl Scout Leaders with an in-depth look at behavior characteristics, government, Girl-Centered Planning, and recognitions including the Promise Center, the Petals, and Bridging.
 
Brownie Girl Scout Program Level Training:
This training will provide Brownie Girl Scout Leaders with an in-depth look at behavior characteristics, government, long range and short term Girl-Centered Planning, troop/group activities, recognitions and Try-Its, and Fly-Up ceremonies.
 
Junior Girl Scout Program Level Training:
This training will provide Junior Girl Scout Leaders with an in-depth look at behavior characteristics and contemporary issues, STUDIO 2B for 11 year old Junior Girl Scouts, long range and short term Girl-Centered Planning, troop/group activities in relation to recognitions, the GS Bronze Award, and bridging activities.
 
STUDIO 2B/Basics Training for Leaders of Girls 11-17 Years Old:
This training will provide the Advisor of Girl Scouts 11 to 17 with the basic program materials and resources for this age group, including an in-depth look at behavior characteristics of girls 11-13, role-playing techniques, age appropriate contemporary issues, long range and short term Girl-Centered Planning, and recognitions, including the GS Silver Award. STUDIO 2B/Girls 13-15 Years Old:
This training for Advisors of Girl Scouts 13 to 15 years old will expand on the basic session with an in-depth look at behavior characteristics at this age level, including new program materials. The GS Gold Award will be introduced. Please look under ‘Girl Scout Gold Award Project Training’.
 
STUDIO 2B/Girls 15-17 Years Old:
This training for Advisors of Girl Scouts 15 to 17 years old will expand on the basic session with an in-depth look at behavior characteristics at this age level, including new program materials. The Girl Scout Gold Award willl be discussed. Please also look under ‘Girl Scout Gold Award Project Training’.
 
American Red Cross Community First Aid and Safety:
CPR for Adult and Child with First Aid. This eight-hour course is designed for the leader who wants to be certified as a First Aider for the first time.
 
American Red Cross CPR and First Aid Review Courses:
These three-hour courses are designed for leaders who want to be re-certified and who are holding current certification.
 
American Red Cross CHALLENGES in CPR and First Aid:

Outdoor Module I & II Combo:
Required for leaders who will be taking their group overnight in any cabin or in the Tabins at Camp Pokanoka. A “walk through” of all the pertinent safety information, the outdoor progression and handouts plus hands-on experience in both modules. The Leave No Trace principles are introduced. Upon completion, you will become a Registered Troop Camper with a Three Year Outdoor Level Certification.

Outdoor Module III (Prerequisite: Outdoor Module I & II):
After completion you will become a Registered Troop Camper with a Three Year Tent Level Certification. You will be able to take your troop/group tenting. Emphasis on tents, variety of cooking methods, knots, map and compass, safety, readiness and Girl-Centered planning. Leave No Trace principles are emphasized throughout the session.

Outdoor Module IV (Prerequisite: Outdoor Module III):
This training is required when you are going back-country camping/tripping with your 11-17 year old Girl Scouts. Emphasis on girl/adult readiness, planning, safety, and the Leave No Trace principles.

Troops on the Go – Home Study Workbook:
Everything you ever wanted to know about safety, Girl-Centered Planning and readiness in order to stay overnight in a secure facility. The home study workbook is available through your SU Manager or directly from the Promise Center.
